Something really cool just happened in Monaco’s waters! The “Malizia Explorer,” Team Malizia‘s new scientific research sailboat, was officially christened. This awesome team was founded by Pierre Casiraghi and Boris Herrmann. And who got to smash the bottle on the hull? None other than legendary oceanographer Sylvia Earle, 89, a true icon in ocean conservation! The ceremony also saw Prince Albert II, UN Ambassador Peter Thomson, and young sailors and students, reinforcing Monaco’s strong ties to science and the sea.

Built for discovery

This 26-meter aluminum vessel, launched in April, is a powerhouse! It’s built to navigate everything from tropical to polar waters and can host up to eight scientists. It’s packed with cutting-edge instruments like the Ocean Pack for collecting CO₂ and temperature data, and a CTD rosette for deep-sea sampling. Its mission? To bring new data from under-explored marine regions to the world.

A commitment to our planet

What’s even better? The project earned a 4-star Sea Index certification, showing its dedication to reducing CO₂ emissions. After its christening, the “Malizia Explorer” participated in the UN Ocean Conference in Nice. Now, it’s gearing up for an incredible five-year scientific campaign with top research institutes.
