Monaco, a principality renowned for its glamour and luxury, also holds beautiful green oases of peace. One of the most famous and emotionally significant is the Princess Grace Rose Garden.

A dedication to eternal love

This magnificent garden was created by Prince Rainier III as a lasting tribute to his beloved wife, Princess Grace, following her tragic death in 1982. It officially opened on June 18, 1984, and is located in Fontvieille Park, spreading across nearly four hectares.

A heavenly rose garden

The Princess Grace Rose Garden is a true paradise for flower lovers. It’s home to approximately 6,000 rose bushes, belonging to as many as 315 different varieties. Each rose is carefully selected and has its own identification QR code, which is useful for gardeners and visitors who want to learn more about individual varieties. Special roses are even named after the princes and princesses of the Grimaldi royal family.

Ecological approach and symbolism

Beyond its beauty, the rose garden is also recognized for its environmentally friendly maintenance practices, earning it the “Ecological Garden” label. The garden’s design is conceived as one enormous rose with nine unopened petals, symbolizing eternal beauty and tenderness. Within the garden, there’s also a small lake bordered by palm trees and an olive grove, adding to its Mediterranean charm.

The Princess Grace Rose Garden

The Princess Grace Rose Garden is more than just a garden. It’s a place of remembrance, love, and serenity, serving as a reminder of Princess Grace’s timeless elegance and humanitarian spirit. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll among the fragrant roses, admiring the diversity of colors and shapes, and in doing so, pay tribute to one of Monaco’s most beloved figures.
