Monaco’s Princess Charlene, accompanied by her children, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, has unexpectedly withdrawn from an upcoming official visit to Japan. The decision, announced by the palace, is a direct response to “current events” unfolding in the Middle East.
World Expo 2025: A change of plans
Princess Charlene, 47, and her 10-year-old twins, Gabriella and Jacques, were slated to travel to Japan this week for World Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai. This significant international event aims to showcase technologies designed to shape and improve future societies. However, a statement released through Hola confirmed the change: “In light of current events taking place in the Middle East, this has led to the decision that H.S.H. Princess Charlene and the Princely children would not be participating in this trip.”

Prince Albert to proceed with new entourage
While Princess Charlene and the children will no longer attend, Prince Albert II, 67, will still fulfill the scheduled engagements in Japan. Instead of his immediate family, Prince Albert will be joined by his younger sister, Princess Stephanie, and her children: Louis Ducruet, Pauline Ducruet, and Camille Gottlieb. Louis Ducruet’s wife, Marie Ducruet, will also be part of the delegation.
Princess Charlene’s message of gratitude
Despite the last-minute change, Princess Charlene conveyed her appreciation to those involved. In the statement, she expressed her “sincere thanks to the teams of the Monaco Pavilion, as well as to the partners and hosts who were to welcome her in Japan, for their understanding and ongoing commitment.”
