Monaco’s temp job market is a new pillar of economic growth. In 2024, this sector soared to unprecedented heights, reaching a turnover of €321.7 million, a significant milestone for the Principality’s labor landscape. With over 11 million hours clocked and 7,808 individuals employed through temp agencies, these figures highlight a dynamic transformation driven by the growing demand for flexibility and skilled labor.

A sector on the rise

The surge in temporary employment is fueled by 18 registered temp agencies in Monaco, whose collective performance rose by 19% compared to the previous year. Even more striking is the five-year trajectory: the sector has nearly doubled in volume with an 88.5% increase since 2019. These numbers firmly establish temporary work as a key player in the private sector, now representing 12.9% of Monaco’s total workforce.

In 2024 alone, nearly 57,000 temporary contracts were fulfilled, marking an increase of 17.4% year-on-year. Construction and public works remain the dominant fields, accounting for two-thirds of all days worked. Within this sector, specialist construction roles are the most sought after, reflecting the rapid pace of ongoing urban development across the Principality. Meanwhile, hospitality and catering follow closely, making up over 20% of contracts, though it’s worth noting that nearly one-third of these assignments last just a single day.

Demographic insights

The temporary employment sector also offers a clear demographic snapshot. Temp workers in Monaco are predominantly male (87.6%), younger than the average private sector employee, and typically commute from outside the Principality. Nationality trends reveal a strong presence of Portuguese workers, comprising 19.3% of the temp workforce, significantly above their average population share.

With construction booming and tourism rebounding, Monaco’s temporary employment sector shows no signs of slowing down. It’s more than just a trend; it’s a new pillar of the economy, offering a flexible future for both workers and employers alike.
