Monaco, known for its glamour and prestige, has once again become a global stage for theatrical arts. The 18th edition of the Mondial du Théâtre (World Festival of Amateur Theatre) officially opened at the Rainier III Auditorium, kicking off a week of creativity, culture, and inspiration. The opening was attended by distinguished guests, including Honorary President Mélanie-Antoinette de Massy and Isabelle Berro-Amadéi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Their presence highlighted the significance of the event, not only for the cultural life of the Principality but also for its role in international cultural cooperation.
A festival that connects the world

Since its founding in 1957, the Mondial du Théâtre has been held every four years and is organized by Studio de Monaco with the support of the Princely Government. This festival transforms Monaco into an epicenter of artistic exchange, bringing people from all over the world together through the universal language of theatre. What sets it apart from many other global festivals is its non-competitive nature. The focus isn’t on awards or rivalry, but on dialogue, inspiration, and creating deeper connections among theatrical artists and the audience. This philosophy, based on collaboration, contributes to the unique and relaxed atmosphere.
Seven days of top-tier artistry
Over the seven days of the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to see 18 selected theatre troupes from five continents. The repertoire is incredibly diverse, ranging from avant-garde experimental theatre to vibrant folk performances that celebrate cultural heritage. Performances are held at two locations: the elegant Théâtre des Variétés and the prestigious Théâtre Princesse Grace, with three shows performed each evening starting at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free, which encourages broad public participation and allows everyone to experience the magic of theatre.
The festival offers much more than just performances. The “Festival Village” at the Rainier III Auditorium is the heart of the event, a place where artists and audiences can meet. Daily workshops led by acclaimed international experts provide an opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills, while evening symposiums allow for a deeper analysis of topics related to theatre and art. This interactive dimension makes the festival an educational and inspiring experience for all, regardless of whether they are professionals or enthusiasts.
Due to its commitment to promoting dialogue, education, and cultural exchange, the Mondial du Théâtre is a can’t-miss event for all lovers of theatre and art. Did you know that the first festival, held in 1957, brought together only a few troupes from Europe, while today it attracts artists and audiences from all over the world? Its long tradition and constant evolution testify to the enduring importance of theatre as a powerful means of connecting different cultures.
