The principality bears the name of the Greek colony Monoikos, which was founded in the 6th century BC by the Phoenicians. For the greater part of its history, this area has been ruled by the Grimaldi dynasty, to which the current ruler of Monaco Albert II also belongs. Although the principality does not have an official capital city, Monte Carlo is the center of the entire principality and its most impressive part.

Monaco’s culinary delights: A fusion of traditions

Monégasque cuisine represents a blend of French and Italian influences. Here, seafood, a variety of vegetables and fruits, as well as the finest world desserts are enjoyed, all accompanied by streams of top-quality champagne and other alcoholic beverages.

Nightlife is the pulsating heart of tourism

The most important economic branch of the principality is tourism, and it relies on a rich nightlife. A large number of clubs and restaurants are at your disposal, as well as the unavoidable casinos, for which they are known worldwide. It is interesting to note that entertainment in casinos is prohibited for the local population due to the potential development of gambling addiction.

Summer paradise by the Mediterranean

Given that Monaco is located along the Mediterranean Sea, the wealthy and nobility gladly spend their summer vacations here. The Monaco harbor is full of luxurious yachts and boats, used to explore the surroundings. The most popular beach, however, is Le Larvotto – also the only public beach in Monaco, which stretches for about five hundred meters.

Formula 1 in Monte Carlo as a spectacle on the streets

Monte Carlo is also the host of the famous Formula 1 race – the Monaco Grand Prix – which is driven on the streets of this city. It is one of the most prestigious races of the season, for which it is impossible to obtain tickets, so fans of this sport find various ways to watch. The race is viewed from the roofs of nearby buildings or from boats anchored in the Monaco harbor.

History and architecture: Royal tradition and landmarks

The main tourist attraction of the city is the changing of the guard in front of the Prince’s Palace, Place du Palace, in the western part of the principality, which takes place every day – 5 minutes before noon. When Prince Albert II and his family are absent – tourists can also tour some of the rooms in the palace.

The Oceanographic Museum: A window to the marine world

Fans of marine fauna inevitably visit the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco, whose monumental building rises from a sea cliff. The institute was founded by Albert I at the beginning of the 20th century, and Jacques-Yves Cousteau served as its director for many years. Here you can see various marine animals, ship models, as well as tools and weapons from this area.
