This weekend, residents and visitors in Monaco are advised to brace for significant traffic disruptions as the Principality hosts two high-profile events: the Blue Economy and Finance Forum at the Grimaldi Forum and the State Visit of French President Emmanuel Macron. These simultaneous events will trigger enhanced security protocols, leading to widespread restrictions impacting all modes of transport – vehicles, pedestrians, and public buses.

Key closures & restrictions: Plan your journey!

Avenue Princesse Grace (Saturday & Sunday):

  • Closed in both directions between the Portier and Rose des Vents roundabouts:
    • Saturday, June 7: 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM
    • Sunday, June 8: 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Limited Access: Only residents of Emilie Palace, La Réserve, Houston Palace, Columbia Palace, and ruelle St Jean will be granted access, strictly via the Rose des Vents roundabout.
Major traffic & access restrictions

Rolling Road Closures & Broader Impacts:

  • Expect additional, unannounced rolling road closures across Monaco, particularly in Monaco-Ville, Monte-Carlo, and Larvotto. These will be implemented dynamically based on the movements of official delegations.
  • Traffic entering Monaco via the motorway tunnel or Moyenne Corniche is also anticipated to face severe delays and heavy congestion.

Boulevard Louis II (Sunday Specific Closure):

  • Fully closed to ALL vehicles and pedestrians between the Portier roundabout and the Pattaya turnaround:
    • Sunday, June 8: 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM
  • Parking Suspensions: Access to both the Louis II and Monte-Carlo Star car parks will be suspended during this critical four-hour window. Authorities note these measures may be adjusted on the day for security reasons.

Pedestrian access & public transport alterations

Pedestrian Restrictions:

  • Avenue Princesse Grace: The lower, seaward-side pavement will be off-limits unless you have official accreditation. Pedestrians will be redirected to the upper pavement or via the Mareterra area.
  • Boulevard Louis II: Completely inaccessible to pedestrians during its Sunday closure.

Public Transport Diversions:

  • Bus Lines 1, 2, 3, 4: Largely operating on their usual routes, with Line 1 diverted via Avenue d’Ostende on Sunday due to the Boulevard Louis II closure.
  • Line 5: Will adopt a special “Grand Prix-style” route, terminating at Place des Moulins and making a return stop at Place du Casino.
  • Line 6: Diverted to Saint-Roman via Boulevard d’Italie, also stopping at Place du Casino before rejoining its regular route to Fontvieille.
  • Boat Bus Service: Completely suspended throughout Saturday and Sunday, resuming normal service on Monday, June 9.

Act smart: Authorities urge preparedness

Given the convergence of high-profile events and stringent security, Monaco authorities strongly advise all residents and visitors to plan their movements well in advance, anticipate significant delays, and strictly adhere to police instructions throughout the entire weekend. Your cooperation will be crucial in ensuring safety and managing the flow of traffic.
