Monte Carlo – Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), Monaco’s leading company responsible for luxury hotels, casinos, and hospitality, has announced a significant change in the rules of conduct within its establishments: Filming guests in hotels and casinos banned! From the end of July 2025, filming or photographing guests in hotels and casinos in Monaco without their explicit consent will be explicitly prohibited by law.

This new measure represents a significant step towards protecting the privacy of visitors in one of the world’s most exclusive destinations. Monaco, known for its discretion and elite tourism, further affirms its commitment to preserving the peace and privacy of its guests with this move.

Why is this change important?

In an era of ubiquitous smartphones and social media, the boundaries of privacy are often blurred. Many visitors to luxury destinations, especially high-profile individuals, value the ability to enjoy their stay without fear of unauthorized filming or sharing of their images online. The new legal regulation aims to create a safer and more discreet environment where guests can relax knowing their privacy is protected.

What does this mean for visitors?

For tourists and visitors to Monaco, this change means they will need to be much more careful when using their recording devices within SBM establishments. Before pointing a camera at other guests, they will be required to request and obtain their consent. Violation of this provision may result in legal consequences.

SBM is expected to actively inform guests about the new rules through clear notices in its establishments and via its digital channels. This initiative will undoubtedly further strengthen Monaco’s reputation as a haven for those who value privacy and exclusivity.
