The art world has a reason to celebrate a triumph of color. The “Couleurs! Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou” exhibition has concluded its run at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, leaving a lasting impression and a remarkable attendance record in its wake. From July 8 to August 31, 2025, the show welcomed an astounding 76,500 visitors, far exceeding all expectations and cementing its place as one of the most successful exhibitions in the venue’s history.

A multisensory journey through modern art

What made this exhibition such a resounding success? Curated by Didier Ottinger, the show was more than a simple display of paintings. It was a carefully crafted experience that engaged all the senses. Visitors were treated to over 100 masterpieces from the 20th century, featuring a pantheon of artistic giants including Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. But the true innovation lay in the accompanying elements. The artistic journey was enhanced by an original soundscape composed by Roque Rivas and a unique series of olfactory ambiences created by renowned perfumer Fragonard. This multisensory approach transformed the traditional viewing experience, making the art more accessible and memorable for a diverse audience.

Attracting a new generation of art lovers

One of the most encouraging statistics to emerge from the exhibition is the high percentage of young attendees. According to data from the Grimaldi Forum, visitors under the age of 25 accounted for 40% of the total attendance. This figure is a powerful testament to the show’s ability to engage a younger generation, proving that traditional art forms can still resonate deeply when presented in a fresh and dynamic way. The “Couleurs!” exhibition successfully bridged the gap between historical masterpieces and modern audiences, paving the way for future cultural events in the region.

Solidifying Monaco’s place on the cultural map

The triumph of this exhibition is not an isolated event; it’s a reflection of Monaco’s evolving identity. For years, the principality has been known primarily as a hub for luxury and high-end tourism. However, the Grimaldi Forum has been actively working to change this narrative. Since its inception in 2000, the venue has fostered partnerships with leading global cultural institutions, bringing world-class art and performances to the Riviera. The success of “Couleurs!” underscores this ongoing effort, challenging the stereotypes and solidifying Monaco’s growing reputation as a serious and vibrant cultural destination. It demonstrates that the principality is not just a playground for the wealthy, but a place where art and culture can thrive and be enjoyed by everyone.
