From September 4th to 7th, Monaco will become the global stage for a spectacular underwater photography celebration of the marine world. Organized by the Monaco Underwater Exploration Club (CESMM), this event isn’t just a competition; it’s a powerful statement about ocean conservation, bringing together photographers from around the world to capture the beauty and fragility of our seas.
The motto: “To know better is to protect better”
Under the honorary presidency of Prince Albert II, this gathering underscores Monaco’s deep-rooted commitment to protecting the oceans. For three days, a shared mission unites both seasoned professionals and emerging talents: to use their lenses to reveal the incredible diversity hidden beneath the waves.

Three contests, one ocean
This year, the event features three distinct competitions, each highlighting a different facet of underwater photography.
- The National Contest: Now in its 20th year, this is CESMM’s flagship event. Thirteen teams of skilled photographer-divers will compete in categories like macro, wide-angle, and fish photography. They’ll also tackle a special imposed theme, all vying for top honors and special prizes.
- The International Challenge: This second edition will see 11 teams representing 11 different countries take on a series of day dives. In a world first, the challenge will also include a pioneering night dive, pushing competitors to new creative limits.
- The Junior Contest: Cultivating the next generation of ocean advocates, this contest has already engaged young participants over the summer. Divided into categories for ages 8-12 (“Jellyfish”) and 13-17 (“Seahorse”), it nurtures a passion for the marine environment from an early age.
Beyond the lens: A legacy of conservation
CESMM, operating under the Monegasque Federation of Underwater Activities, is more than just a host for this event. The club is a key player in Monaco’s ocean advocacy efforts. With over 300 introductory dives already organized at the Rainier III pool, their work extends far beyond the competition, actively raising awareness about marine ecosystems for all.
