The historic Stade Louis II undergoes major renovation. A cornerstone of Monegasque sport and home to countless moments of athletic glory is embarking on a transformative journey. The Principality has officially kicked off the first phase of an ambitious renovation program, designed to elevate the venue to modern standards while preserving its cherished legacy as a world-class sporting hub.
Enhancing the fan experience: The initial phase
Launched this summer, the first phase is focused on a comprehensive overhaul of the stadium’s core public amenities. Fans can look forward to a complete refurbishment of the refreshment stands and restrooms, transforming them into modern, state-of-the-art facilities. Improvements are also being made to the spectator areas, with a focus on enhancing overall comfort, ensuring universal accessibility for all patrons, and optimizing crowd flow throughout the venue. This effort, meticulously overseen by the Public Works Department in close coordination with the stadium’s management, aims to create a more enjoyable and seamless experience for every visitor.

A phased approach to maintain momentum
To ensure that the stadium’s vibrant calendar of events remains uninterrupted, the renovation is being meticulously carried out in stages. The initial phase is scheduled from 2025 to 2027, allowing marquee sporting events—from AS Monaco’s Ligue 1 fixtures to the world-renowned Meeting Herculis and the Games of the Small States of Europe—to proceed without major disruption. During periods of construction, certain facilities will be temporarily relocated, and provisional measures will be thoughtfully put in place to maintain a high level of spectator convenience and comfort.
Balancing tradition with a bold vision for 2035
This initial refurbishment is just the first step in a much larger, decade-long modernization strategy. With a final completion date envisaged for 2035, the overall program aims to bring the entire Stade Louis II complex into alignment with the latest safety and quality requirements for major international competitions. The project’s guiding principle is a delicate balance: to seamlessly blend contemporary, cutting-edge improvements with the stadium’s rich, long-standing tradition. This ambitious vision secures the Stade Louis II’s place as a premier hub for international sport for generations to come.
