After years of anticipation and meticulous planning, the Prince’s Government has finally lifted the veil on an ambitious redevelopment project for the Fontvieille grand transformation. This exciting transformation promises to revitalize Fontvieille Shopping Centre – a strategic district of the Principality, ushering in a new era of retail, leisure, and community services.

A modern marvel in the making

The core vision for the Fontvieille shopping center’s overhaul is to create a dynamic, multi-faceted public facility. Imagine a vibrant hub teeming with an expanded array of retail outlets, essential local services, and diverse leisure and dining facilities. This comprehensive redevelopment aims to cater to every need, offering an enriched experience for both residents and visitors alike.

Significant investment for enhanced experience

The commitment to this grand project is underscored by a substantial budget allocation. A dedicated €5 million is earmarked for the replacement of moving walkways and footbridges in 2026, ensuring seamless and modern accessibility throughout the center. Furthermore, an additional €2 million will be invested in enhancing the center’s overall amenities and aesthetics, promising a more inviting and visually appealing environment. The Department of Finance and the Economy is meticulously coordinating this ambitious undertaking, ensuring every detail aligns with the vision of a state-of-the-art facility.

Collaboration and continuity: Prioritizing retailers and the community

Transparency and collaboration are at the forefront of this project. An initial information meeting with existing retailers was held on July 24th, marking the beginning of a crucial consultation cycle that will continue throughout the renovation period. This proactive approach ensures that the voices of those directly impacted are heard and integrated into the planning process.

The government’s announcement has been met with enthusiastic approval from the National Council’s elected representatives, who view it as the culmination of their persistent advocacy. National councillors are particularly emphasizing three critical aspects:

  • Continuity of retail operations: Ensuring businesses can continue to serve customers throughout the works.
  • National priority in future choices: Prioritizing local interests in the selection of new retailers and services.
  • Support for existing retailers: Providing assistance and resources to current businesses during the transition.

A key pillar of the plan is the unwavering commitment to maintaining commercial continuity throughout the renovation. Simultaneously, dedicated efforts will be made to preserve footfall and economic activity, minimizing disruption and ensuring the continued vibrancy of the area.

A bright future for Fontvieille

This remarkable institutional convergence signals a pivotal new chapter for Fontvieille, a strategic district of the Principality that has long awaited this exciting retail transformation. With careful planning, significant investment, and a collaborative spirit, the Fontvieille Shopping Centre is poised to become a shining example of modern urban development, offering an unparalleled experience for all.
