Monaco is enhancing its public transportation system with a revamped express bus network, set to launch on Monday, July 28. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to refine mobility solutions, catering to the needs of both residents and visitors.

The Principality of Monaco is introducing significant enhancements to its express bus network. These changes, effective July 28, are the result of extensive evaluation of the experimental bus lines launched in April 2024. The Department of Urban Amenities has carefully analyzed commuter habits and preferences to implement strategic adjustments aimed at boosting efficiency and improving accessibility to key locations.

Expanded routes and increased frequency

A major highlight of this update is the expansion of key routes and an increase in service frequency:

  • X1 Line Extension: The X1 line will now serve the historic Rocher district, providing better access to this iconic area.
  • X2 Line Extension: The X2 line is being extended to the vibrant Portier neighborhood.

These extensions will significantly improve connectivity, especially from the Salines car park, which is rapidly becoming a central hub for commuters. In addition to expanded routes, both the X1 and X2 lines will now operate every 14 minutes, a notable improvement from the previous 20-minute frequency.

Streamlined services and route details

The updated network includes refined routes for improved passenger experience:

  • X1 Route: Jardin Exotique, Belgique, Place d’Armes, Rocher
  • X2 Route: Jardin Exotique, Pont Sainte-Dévote, Monte-Carlo Tourisme, Portier

Conversely, the X4 line will be discontinued due to low ridership. Passengers who previously used the X4 are advised to use the X3 line, which offers similar coverage, excluding the Saint-Roman stop.

For convenience, here’s an overview of the key express lines:

  • X1: Jardin Exotique, Belgique, Place d’Armes, Rocher
  • X2: Jardin Exotique, Pont Sainte-Dévote, Monte-Carlo Tourisme, Portier
  • X3: Albert II, Fontvieille, Place d’Armes, Princesse Antoinette, Portier, Larvotto

This strategic overhaul of Monaco’s bus network underscores its ongoing dedication to developing smarter, greener, and more efficient transportation solutions for everyone.
