Concerts at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco (from 10 july to 7 august 2025) offer a unique cultural experience, blending historical ambiance with world-class classical music. They are held in the Cour d’Honneur (Court of Honor) of the Prince’s Palace, the official residence of the Prince of Monaco, which lends them a special, exclusive character.

History and tradition

The tradition of concerts at the Palace dates back to the 18th century when the Princes of Monaco regularly hosted musical evenings for their subjects. This tradition was revived in 1959 by Prince Rainier III, a great music enthusiast. His vision was to establish Monaco on the map of European cultural centers, and these concerts played a crucial role in achieving that goal. The very first concerts, held in August 1959 under the baton of Paul Paray, featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Strauss, were met with critical acclaim across Europe. The orchestra was unanimously declared one of the best symphonic ensembles in Europe.

Today, the concerts are regularly performed by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra (OPMC), one of the most esteemed symphony orchestras in the world. Under the presidency of Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover and with the support of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, the orchestra continues its tradition of excellence.

A unique experience

What makes the concerts at the Prince’s Palace so special is the combination of historical ambiance and outstanding acoustics. The palace courtyard, with its 14th-century frescoes and Carrara marble staircase, provides a stunning backdrop for musical performances. The concerts are usually held during the summer months, under the open sky, which adds to the magical atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy masterpieces of classical music in an environment steeped in centuries of history and royal splendor.

In addition to providing world-class music, these concerts are also an opportunity to experience a part of Monegasque culture and tradition. The dress code is typically formal (a jacket and tie are mandatory for gentlemen, elegant attire for ladies), which further contributes to the sense of exclusivity and sophistication.
