During this year’s Monaco Art Week 2025, Opera Gallery is hosting a standout exhibition titled Monaco Masters Show: Chagall & Léger, colour and form, paying tribute to two revolutionary figures in modern art. Under the High Patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco, the event marks a significant cultural moment on the Principality’s art calendar.

This major exhibition commemorates the 40th anniversary of Marc Chagall’s passing and 70 years since the death of Fernand Léger. Their personal and artistic journeys—intertwined from early days in Montparnasse’s avant-garde scene to their wartime exile in America, and finally their creative years on the French Riviera—form the narrative spine of the exhibition.

At its core, the show juxtaposes Chagall’s lyrical dreamscapes with Léger’s dynamic geometric language. These contrasting yet complementary styles are placed in dialogue not only with one another, but also with a wider selection of modern and contemporary masters. The exhibition features approximately 30 iconic works by a range of groundbreaking artists such as Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Alexander Calder, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Fernando Botero, George Condo, and Pierre Soulages.

Through this curated ensemble, the exhibition underscores how the visual languages of Chagall and Léger continue to shape and inspire artistic expression in the 21st century. It’s a vibrant tribute to the evolution of colour and form across generations and styles.

Staying true to its social mission, Opera Gallery Monaco will donate a portion of the exhibition’s proceeds to Mission Enfance, a humanitarian organisation committed to helping children in vulnerable communities across the globe. The gallery’s partnership with the charity spans over ten years, highlighting its dedication to using art as a means of positive impact.
